Successful Event in spite of a major glitch
As I was preparing to go to the venue and start the set up preparation at 10:00 a.m. for a 5:30 event, I was notified that the tsunami warning was about to sound and the venue was closed until further notice.
The wether was beautiful at our Hawaiian island, not a single sign of doom in the air was to be seen or felt. The sun was shining, the air was sweet smelling and the ocean was inviting. The day was just like any other normal day, with one exception. The warning sirens were blearing warning of an impending doom. The doom was to happen around 1:30 p.m. There was nothing to do but wait, and wait and wait. 1:30 came and went and no tsunami.
I finally received an “all clear” phone call from the venue. I can start getting ready for the event at 2:30. I made several phone calls to the committee I was working with and even with a couple of “can we do it at this late time?” questions and doubts, we pulled together, moving at warped speed, making fast decisions and completing the set up in less then 3 hrs. (originally needed 6, for all that needed to be done).
The guests arrived, to a beautifully set up entrance with musicians singing and entertainment them, to the photo ops, to a chance to win a great bottle of wine, to a beautifully set up banquet hall. The attendance was a record breaker for this organization.
When crises arrises, put on your fast shoes, smile an just move forward.
Till next time,
Nada
