Chain of Events…
If I hadn’t gone to the symphony information meeting, or joined the OCS’ (Oahu Choral Society) board, or auditioned for the chorus, etc. etc…. you see where this is going, I would have never had a chance to be featured in the local business news paper, had a great photo shoot and fantastic exposure. See article in PBN (Pacific Business News) http://pacific.bizjournals.com/pacific/stories/2010/05/31/smallb1.html
Chain of events can make or break us and can change the course of our career. Sometimes, actually most of the time, we are being led in the direction that we need to go, to meet the right people, to see the events, locations etc. The only thing is that sometimes we don’t want to see what’s right in front of us. We think that we know better, don’t have time to attend or we are just unmotivated. That’s when we are most likely to get into trouble and stray off course for success.
There are reasons why we get invited to different functions. There is a reason why others introduce us to various contacts, “they” believe in us. There are people to meet and opportunities to devour. Missing these grand gestures to expand can slow down or kill our prospects to grow, expand and move to the next level of development and career advancement.
Take a trip back into your past (in your mind of course). Look for the different connections, look for the chain of events, that led you to where you are right now. Did you get to where you are in a straight shot, or did it take several turns to get you to where you are today?
Remember where you came from, how you got here and focus on the opportunities that will sharpen your skills and lead you to accomplishing your best.
